Whew, I got deleted for awhile, that was scary . But I'm still here. As I said I'm a handsome devil, a little rough around the edges sort of like a Robert De Niro type. Our new kennel additions offer us lots of room to display our adoptable dogs. Stop by and see all the great cats/dogs, puppies & ktitens that we have available for adoption.
Rio Rancho Animal Control spays/neuters all adopted cats/dogs before they go to their new adoptive homes. Surgeries are done three times a week. Animals adopted will be scheduled for surgery on the next available surgery date, recover overnight at the shelter, and go home the day after surgery.
Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, rabies vaccination, RCP for cats or DA2PP for dogs, and city license.
Rio Rancho City Residents - $89
Residents outside Rio Rancho - $85 (no city license)
Previously sterilized animal - $44 for City Resident
Previously sterilized animal - $40 for Non-City Resident
Adoptions are up and animals are being reclaimed by their owners. We hope that people will use this site to search for and be reunited with their lost pets or to find a new companion animal for their home. We currently have an assortment of dogs, cats, young puppies and kittens waiting to go home with you today. Stop by and see the selection of pets we have available. We also have wonderful adult/senior pets who are past the trials and tribulations of "puppyhood" and just want to enjoy life with you. We encourage you to adopt your next companion animal from a local shelter or rescue group!
We encourage you to stop by and visit the shelter in search of your lost pet. Sometimes a pet is identified as a different breed, especially if it is a mix of multiple breeds. We try to get photos of all of the available pets...but please, stop by if you have lost yours. We have had some wonderful "reunions" in the last couple months!

Who We Are
Rio Rancho Animal Control is part of the Rio Rancho Department of Public Safety. Our field officers respond to animal calls throughout the day. Our kennel officers provide daily care for the animals in our facility.
Animal Control is open Monday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - Noon and 1 - 5 p.m. We are closed on Sunday and Holidays.
If you have lost/found an animal, please report it to Animal Control at (505) 891-5075. If your pet is lost, please stop by the shelter to see if it has been brought to the shelter or if it has been picked up by our field officers.
We are delighted to reunite lost pets with their owners and remind pet owners to tag their pets with identification information or microchip your pet. City licenses are just $4 for spayed/neutered animals ($2 for Senior Citizens), and $25 for unaltered animals. City licenses enable the shelter to quickly locate the owner as long as address/phone on file is current.
Adopting a friend
Adoption fee is $89 for Rio Rancho city residents / $85 non-residents, which includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations and license. If the animal is already spayed/neutered, adoption fee is $44 for city residents / $40 non-residents.
Animals with ID tags or microchip are held for 7 days to give owners time to reclaim. Animals without any ID are held for 5 days. If not claimed, they are available for adoption.
Animals may be reserved by interested party prior to adoption. Only one Reserve is accepted for each animal giving potential adopter first chance to adopt if not claimed by owner. If not adopted by 4:30 pm on date available, Reserve is removed, and animal is available for adoption on a first come, first serve basis the following day.

To reach the Rio Rancho Animal Control from Albuquerque, take I-25 to Paseo Del Norte. West on PaseoDel Norte to Coors. North on Coors to the Coors Bypass, connecting to Hwy 528. North on Hwy 528 to Northern Blvd. West on Northern 2.5 miles to the shelter which will be on the right as you reach the top of the hill.
